Freelancing has been always a come and go thing in my 39 years of existence. Right back in 2000 a friend introduced me to Odesk - now Upwork, to try my luck in working part-time and earning dollars. It was a very enticing idea and so I was excitedly preparing my documents for uploads and registered to the website thinking that I will be hired right then and there. I was full of confidence that a pool of clients will be willing to hire me because I was a graduate of a degree and has been exposed to office, administrative and accounting tasks.
But...
It was a total failing experience for me. For weeks, I kept on checking my submitted proposals, updated my profile and portfolios and keep on submitted few more proposals. And yet again, another week has passed, and still, no clients coming for an interview, or even a message to request for a proposal. My confidence on my freelancing career was shattered to pieces thinking that I was a total failure, because for months, nobody even tried to hire me. My friend encouraged me to keep on going and to be patient for it was not an overnight success for her too.
Just then, things became hectic with my corporate responsibility as part of the accounting team where I was at. It led to a time where I had totally forgotten the dreams that I once had to be part of the freelancing world.
Who would have guessed that this year would be the year that I would embrace the thought once again. This time, it was of pure intention and with an even greater purpose. For a working mom like me who have to raise two kids, working round the clock during daytime, even doing overtime works, while mentoring and tutoring them after work is truly a struggle. Another well-grounded reason was the existence of the pandemic which totally hit the world to the ground. Every feed of my social media sites encourages everyone to do freelancing jobs while staying at home. And then it hit me. Why not? I mean, How come I just thought of it again? It would give me total freedom while working at home, spend time with my kids and have a quality bonding with my family whenever we want to. Yes, it was an AHA moment for me. A friend who has been a freelancer for just a few months back introduced me to Filipino Virtual Assistance where she had her freelancing course session with Coach Grace Locsin as her mentor. I was actually hesitant at first whether it was really a good idea to enroll to courses where we can just learn it with the various digital materials all around social media sites. To my utmost surprise, my first live coaching with her was totally inspiring, motivating and totally exciting to really know the basics of freelancing. Truly, it's not an easy path to become a full-pledged freelancer.
I am not yet done with my freelancing course, but as of this writing, I am halfway there. And I am positive, that with the help of the FVA Family with Coach Grace at my back, I am holding on to her promise that she will never leave me until I get that one first client or even after that. She will be with me on this journey until I am ready to fly on my own. FVA Family has been giving various freelancing courses that will totally hone you to your most favored niches.
